ILARIA MARGUTTI: FIGLIE DELL’INFINITO
The Legislative Assembly of the Emilia-Romagna Region IT celebrates International Women’s Rights Day with Figlie dell’Infinito (Daughters of the Infinite), a solo exhibition by Ilaria Margutti, opening on March 6, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the headquarters of the Legislative Assembly of the Emilia-Romagna Region, located at Viale Aldo Moro, 52, Bologna.

Curated by Silvia Bonomini, this exhibition pays tribute to women who have made essential contributions to our understanding of the world and the cosmos. Among them, Henrietta Leavitt, whose work enabled the measurement of distances between celestial bodies, and Marija Gimbutas, whose archaeological research offered an alternative reading of ancient matriarchal cultures. Gimbutas emphasized how the connection between living beings and nature was the foundational principle of these societies, integrating a narrative of interrelation into the dominant perspective.

One of the exhibition’s objectives is to prompt reflection—through art—on the role of women in shaping knowledge and to explore a feminine vision of the many universes we inhabit.
The series of works presented in this exhibition explores knowledge as a network and matter as a web of relationships, highlighting the role of female thought in constructing new paradigms. The exhibition underscores how, across various disciplines, women’s contributions have introduced new models of study and knowledge, offering an alternative to the linear and hierarchical structures of the dominant patriarchal tradition.

Ilaria Margutti was born in Modena and currently lives and works in Sansepolcro. Her artistic research merges embroidery with the study of the multiple expressions of femininity, delving into its symbols and archetypes, while focusing particularly on the relationship between art and science. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, she has incorporated thread as a central element of her work since 2007, exploring the concepts of interconnection and memory.

In recent years, her artistic practice has drawn inspiration from the theories of Grete Hermann, a scientist and philosopher who redefined the concept of causality in quantum mechanics, emphasizing the interdependence between elements. For Margutti, thread becomes a medium to visually translate these connections, evoking the hidden fabric that links galaxies, matter, and human thought.
The exhibition is organized in collaboration with AIDIA Bologna and will be open to the public until April 2, 2025, from Monday to Friday (9:00 AM – 6:00 PM). Free admission.
