LUCIANA AIRONI. AbbeceDiariu
Project Room
Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 5:00 PM, SCD Studio (Via Bramante 22n, Perugia IT) will inaugurate “AbbeceDiariu” the first project room of the 2025 exhibition season. This artistic project, created by Sardinian artist Luciana Aironi and curated by Barbara Pavan, explores the transformative power of language.

“AbbeceDiariu” is an artistic endeavor investigating the potency of language and its impact on the intimate structure of human existence. The exhibition consists of twenty-five works created using embroidery and mixed techniques on X-rays, some of which are backlit by LEDs. Here, the dialogue between words and materials delves into memory, identity, and the relationship between body and language.
Aironi uses X-ray plates as metaphors for bodily transparency and human fragility. On these plates, she embroiders words in Sardinian dialect, her native tongue, deeply rooted in both emotional experiences and the context of the territorial community to which she belongs. Each embroidered term becomes an indelible mark of personal and collective experiences, evoking the transformative and, at times, traumatic power of language. The dialect, with its visceral authenticity, expresses an unmediated and direct truth, rendering the bond between words and the body tangible and powerful.

The choice of embroidery, a technique traditionally associated with the feminine sphere, amplifies the symbolic value of the works. Each stitch becomes a reparative gesture, capable of fixing and mending the wounds of the past, invoking language as both a tool of healing and a potential source of harm. In this perspective, the body—represented in the X-rays—emerges as a palimpsest on which words leave profound traces, shaping memory and identity.

With “AbbeceDiariu,” Aironi invites reflection on the power of words to define human beings, for better or worse. In an era marked by polarizing and sometimes destructive communication, the artist calls for a deeper and more responsible awareness of language usage.
The exhibition will run through March 1, 2025. A catalog will be available on-site.

SCD Textile & Art Studio is an association dedicated to promote both national and international contemporary Fiber Art. The Studio has been engaged for years in activities focused on research, experimentation, and the promotion of innovative artistic languages, particularly in the field of fibers. It emphasizes artistic practices that intertwine tradition and contemporaneity, with a more recent focus on textiles applied to performance and relational arts as well as new technologies.
